PROPER HUMAN RESOURCING DURING THE FIRSTLOCKDOWN TIMES
As we all faced our worst financial crisis during the first lockdown period in Srilanka we were unprepared and had no idea of surviving. We were forced into our homes and we had very tough times financially. Only the healthcare people and other limited essential services were allowed to operate during that times. We at Raj Pharmacy Pvt Ltd were assigned to deliver medications to the needful by the Kandy District Secretariat. We had a tough time managing the employees.
The crisis was like no other. people were uncertain about the impact upon their lives and livelihoods . no clear data was available of the Epidemiology of the virus. (Gita Gopinath,2020). In Srilanka we had very limited information and safety guidelines. Only isolating ourselves from the rest of the world was considered as the option to survive the pandemic.
During the lockdown period as a company we were focusing to serve the people and protect our employees as well. We had to take extra precaution and make sure our employees were safe. Initially most of the employees were not comfortable to take the risk. they were afraid of contracting the virus and they were concerned about their families.
Challenges faced
Safety concerns of the employees
Mental stability of the employees
Steps taken to overcome the issue
Providing accommodation to essential staff necessary to operate.
Making sure all health guidelines issued at that time were fulfilled (which was very limited)
Making sure all employees get their wages without any deduction
Providing necessary entertainment to the staff (eg: unlimited data)
The outcome
Working as a team we managed to achieve more than 80 percent of our usual sale which was enough to manage the expenses.
average sales as of 2020 march- 12000000lkr
total sales on the month of april- 11207292lkr
total sales on the month of may- 11807434lkr
so it is evident that by proper resourcing of our employees we can always achieve sucess.
